When kids put words in alphabetical order, they're paying attention to the correct spellings of words, and they are getting practice in writing those words, too.
The two worksheets on this page each contain an assortment of interesting words on fun topics for kids to alphabetize. On the first page, kids will alphabetize with the first and second letters only. On the second more challenging page, they'll need to look at the second, third and fourth letters of each word.
Words on this page: shrimp, pumpkin, yam, chocolate, apples, lime, pasta, taco, muffin, cereal, pretzel, yogurt, pancake, jelly, figs, mango, banana, turkey, lemon, salami, milkshake, ice cream, biscuits, potatoes, tofu
Ask students to write their answers to these questions for even more spelling and writing practice.
1. What words are names of fruits? (apples, figs, mango, banana, lemon, lime)
2. There are five foods on the list that begin with P. Try to list eight more P food words. Write your list again in alphabetical order. (Possible words include parfaits, parsley, peach, peanut, pear, peas, pineapple, pizza, popcorn, and more.)
3. Write the four-letter foods on the list. Try to list ten more four-letter food words. Write them again in alphabetical order. (Possible foods include bean, beef, cake, corn, fish, lamb, meat, milk, oats, pear, pork, rice, soup, tuna and more.)
