Fourth Grade Spelling Words
Find a word puzzles printable are fun for all ages! Since you can solve them with a pencil at anytime, they are super-convenient in the classroom or at home.

Twenty-four words from our list of fourth grade spelling words are hidden in this 4-shaped puzzle. I chose words with silent letters. The directions on the printable page direct students to check off words as they find them, and to underline the silent letters.
Hint: Students in grades 3-5 will enjoy this puzzle, not just 4th graders!
Then there's the fun BONUS! Kids can look for a word spelled with four letters, including a silent one, that names a female relative. Can they find it? Can you? (There is an answer key on the second page of the printable version, just in case!) It's just one of the little extras I love to provide for learners here at Spelling Words Well!

Extension Activities
1. Assign students to work in pairs to create their own find-a-word puzzles using words from one of my grade level word lists. Students may select words of their choice, or words with suffixes, double letters, or any other feature.
Give each team a piece of graph paper on which to work. Encourage them to draw a fun shape first, if you like. Then they can carefully add their choice of words into the grid, and make a list of the words they've added to the puzzle.
When word puzzles are finished, the teacher should check them over, make clean copies and share them amongst other students.
This is fun and learning at its best! As students look through word lists, place words in the puzzles, and copy words into word lists, they are spelling, spelling, spelling!
2. Encourage students to write sentences using at least two words from the same column in the word list above. Sentences may be serious or silly.
3. Encourage groups of three students to write stories using words from the puzzle above. See how many words each group can use in a single story. Ask groups to read their stories to the rest of the class.
