Twenty-five nouns from my list of third grade spelling words are hidden in this 3-shaped puzzle. Third graders are learning so much, and they are busy with all sorts of fun activities! This word search game will be right up their alley!
Hint: Students in grades 2-4 will enjoy this puzzle, not just 3rd graders!

Extension Activities
1. Assign students to work in groups of three to list more nouns. Consider giving each group a different set of letters. For instance, Group 1 could list nouns beginning with A, B and C. Group 2 could list nouns beginning with D, E and F and so on. Make a word wall. Use these lists as springboards for future lessons on plural nouns and proper nouns.
2. Assign students to work in pairs to create their own seek-a-word puzzles using words from one of my grade level word lists. Students may select words of their choice, or words with suffixes, double letters, or any other feature.
Give each team a piece of graph paper on which to work. Encourage them to draw a fun shape first, if you like. Then they can carefully add their choice of words into the grid, and make a list of the words they've added to the puzzle.
When word puzzles are finished, the teacher should check them over, make clean copies and share them amongst other students.
This is fun and learning at its best! As students look through word lists, place words in the puzzles, and copy words into word lists, they are spelling, spelling, spelling!
3. Direct students to individually write sentences using at least two words from the same column in the word list above. Sentences may be serious or silly.
4. Encourage groups of three students to write stories using words from the puzzle above. See how many words each group can use in a single story. Ask groups to read their stories to the rest of the class.
