Try some of these brain teasers and word puzzles to challenge your high school students. Spelling has never been so much fun, or so tricky! Find lots more brain teasers, crosswords, and word scrambles by using the blue tabs at the left.

hand pulling on a live fuse

Pull-Apart Synonyms - Extremely challenging free word scramble game! Separate the letters in each line, without rearranging the letters, to spell two synonyms. Work carefully. Some letters may appear to belong in one word, but because of their position in the row of letters, they may belong in the other word. Is this as easy as it sounds???

Yum-Yum! A delicious word scramble, full of compound food words. You won't find any doughnuts or fruitcakes here, but you will find 15 other foods. Word scramble puzzles are fun for most students. They'll be practicing important spelling skills while they are rearranging letters and forming new words! Why NOT make spelling practice this FUN?!?

Man wearing glasses, laden with lots of luggage, from our Travel Teaser spelling and logic puzzler

Travel Teaser - One of our most difficult logic brain teasers. Can you figure out who went where and when?  You'll need to know the correct spellings of several tricky words, plus you'll need to read carefully, and -- of course -- use skills in logic and critical thinking.

An Impossible Brain Teaser - This looks straightforward, for sure. But just wait until you try to solve it for yourself! Careful reading and spelling skills required. Why settle for boring, rote comprehension worksheets, when you can really challenge your high-preforming students with brain-straining exercises like this?!?

Detective with a large magnifying glass, from our Spelling Brain Teasers for adults at www.spelling-words-well.com

Brain Teasers for Adults  & Upper Grade Students - Two REALLY difficult letters with hidden messages. Good spelling skills are the key to uncovering them! Review those spelling demons, put on your thinking caps, and dive in!

Which One Is It?  Don’t try to solve this tricky puzzle while you’re blindfolded. Instead, use what you know about correct spelling! Choose the one word that is spelled correctly and write it into the crossword puzzle.

Puzzle worksheets for spelling practice: Tricky word search puzzle and word scramble games. Spelling worksheets disguised as word play! I'm a big fan of word play, word puzzles and brain teasers. They help build higher-level thinking skills. Plus they're a nice change from ordinary worksheets.

Cryptogram Worksheet: Puzzle page for upper grades. Includes instructions so students, parents or teachers can make more cryptogram puzzles with any word list. This is a Wacky Weather Cryptogram word puzzle!
